Having heard about some nightmares with taxis from the Beijing Airport to the hotel, we elected for booking a Car Service in advance. Upon exiting the airport our driver was waiting for us. The drive took about an hour and we arrived at the Doubletree by Hilton Beijing hotel. The bellman took our luggage out of the taxi and motioned for us to go check-in. We checked in for our 3 night stay and were escorted to our room by the bellman with our luggage.
All of the rooms had the Air Conditioning controlled by the staff. It was very warm, and as we could not adjust the air cooler, had to contact the front desk to send someone to open the windows for us, so we could have a little pollution breeze. While we’re not sure if this is common practice in Beijing, it is something that we definitely did not appreciate.
We were provided with breakfast and appetizers/drinks in the evening courtesy of our Diamond elite status. While our last hotel had a great lounge that was constantly refreshed with items, this lounge was horrible, especially in the evening. As soon as a plate of food was placed down, the “vultures” swooped in and took it all. It then took 15 minutes or so to replenish. Needless to say, if you weren’t there to swoop it up, you missed out. The first night we arrived, it was “slim pickings.” The drinks were also not cold and the ice had all melted. Breakfast was not much better as the selection was poor. The lounge was also very crowded, not really anything the hotel can do about that, just a comment.
While the Air Conditioning and Lounge didn’t meet our expectations, the staff had very good service throughout our stay.
