DisneyWorld and Jamaica Trip At A Heavy Discount
We had decided earlier in the year that we weren’t going to do anything big for our anniversary this year, unlike last year (90 Days in Asia!) Then, in July we had the idea of going to Jamaica. This led us to add the idea of stopping in DisneyWorld on the way. With less than 4 months notice, could we do it? We did some quick research and found out that we could do it and not lose an arm and a leg. Here’s how:
LAX to Orlando = American Airlines miles + $11.20 taxes/fees
Orlando to Montego Bay, Jamaica = JetBlue miles + $99.20 taxes/fees
Montego Bay, Jamaica to Fort Lauderdale to Long Beach = JetBlue miles + $182.22 taxes/fees
All we had to pay was the taxes and fees.
5 nights – Walt Disney World Swan Hotel = Free on SPG (Starwood Preferred Guest) points + $157.50 for daily resort charges.
7 nights – Jewel Dunn’s River Beach Resort and Spa = Free on Hilton Points.
Disney World Tickets
4-Day Parkhopper Ticket = $427.95 * 2 persons = $855.90. We purchased through Undercover Tourist with our Barclay Arrival Plus card. This allowed us to redeem our signup bonus ($530) on these “travel purchases.” Thus total came to $325.90.
So for $776.02, we had a 5 night hotel stay on Disney World property, 7 night hotel stay at an all-inclusive resort, 4 day Disney parkhopper tickets and flights to get everywhere.
Retail price for all of this would be upwards of $5,500 for 2 adults.
How do I do that too?
That’s the next logical question. In the Points & Miles Hobby, credit card sign ups offer the biggest and fastest way to get points. For example, above we referenced the Barclay Arrival Plus card. It offers a $530 sign up bonus that can be redeemed on travel purchases after spending $3,000. Hilton credit cards by American Express have offered 100-125k bonuses. If you have a spouse that can get it too, you can combine points with their family pooling program; same type of program exists with SPG.
Another option would be to consult with SkypakTravel. We can provide a list of ways to obtain the points you need for your next travel journey.
